client: Private House

The ‘Wilderness’ is a contemporary house located within fifty acres of woodland in Suffolk. The client’s brief for a light and social space and plenty of guest accommodation gave the lead for the interior arrangement which strikes the balance between public and private spaces. While there’s plenty of room for a party, the spaces remain intimate and comfortable for the client on her own.
The landscape enhancement and opportunities for nature conservation are central to the scheme and reflect the 21st century reality in which nature is fragile. Rather than radically changing the landscape, the Wilderness garden seeks to accentuate what is special and unique about this Suffolk ‘Wilderness’.
The house responds to the requirements of living and building in the twenty first century and makes use of sustainable design. Paul+O Architects understand the challenges of sustainable development and have a belief and commitment to environmental issues. Key elements include rainwater harvesting, grey-water recycling. The house has been designed to benefit from passive solar gain and includes solar panels on the roof.
Crib 5 worked closely with Paul+O Architects to select just the right furniture for this project, which creates the perfect finished result.
